Millennium Bridge at Night

Today's Photo - Millennium Bridge at Night

At low tide it's possible to walk down onto the riverbed of the River Thames and get shots from a slightly different perspective with added foreground interest. The bridge leads straight to St Paul's Cathedral with its wonderfully lit and detailed dome. The bridge is often lit up blue at night but not that night. It remained mysteriously dark.

Westbere Lake at Dusk

Daily Photo - Westbere Lake at Dusk

This lake is a few minutes walk from my village. As the sun was going down a mist rolled in and  it became eerily quiet. I quickly grabbed my camera and sprinted towards the lakes and found it completely still and serene.

Thames Metal Walkway

Today's Photo - Thames Metal Walkway

I was out for a spot of night photography along the bank of the River Thames in London when I came across this walkway between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. The lights, colors and reflections drew me in straight away. I particularly like the way the curved roof supports look like suspended liquid metal. I told my son it was an alien antigravity machine but he didn't believe me.

Three bracketed exposures were transferred to Photomatix and then processed in Photoshop to bring out the textures followed by a little sprinkling of Topaz Adjust.

Fishing Boats of Essaouira

Daily Photo - Boats of Essaouira

I was surprised by Morocco in so many ways, the buzz, the noise, the exotic smells but I hadn't been prepared to be as surprised as I was by Essaouira. When the bus, from Marrakech, pulled into the city it was as though driving into a town on the French Riviera, the shuttered buildings and the well manicured green palm filled islands in the centre of the road. As the dry dusty landscape turned to a lush green and descended into this oasis by the see I experienced the same surprise and awe I felt on that first visit as a child.

There is a small but busy working fishing port in Essaouira where everything seems to be going on. Boat building, fishing and cooking. The smell of barbecued fish fills the air, as numerous little stalls cook the daily catch, attracting all the locals as well as the resident birds and cats who for a brief moment ignore each other in favor of snatching a morsel of food.

If that wasn't enough of an attraction, they also filmed Game of Thrones here. :) Unfortunately, Daenerys was long gone!
