The 21 Day Rule

January 17, 2020 by Paul Marles Leave a Comment

When buying something it is said the buy on emotion and justify on logic. Emotion is the bad way to make a decision.

The same goes for a big decision in life – do I split with my partner? Do I quit my job?

These are the big life decisions that are so easily rushed into.

When we make a decision we often do it with emotion, no logic involved. Spur of the moment. Because you hate or are angry, been hard done by or mistreated.

My advice – wait 21 days. Tell yourself, ok I’m going to do this but I’m going to wait 21 days then I’ll do what I set out to do.

During those 21 days, the emotions will settle and logic will take over. The emotional part of the brain, which does not make good decisions, will give over to the more rational logical part of the brain.

Reassess after 21 days. If you still feel the same then go for it. Use those 21 days to think of a back up plan if one is required. i.e. do you have another source of income, can I cover my bills?

This way you will make less rash decisions that you will regret later on.

If you do regret a decision you’ve made. Forget it. it’s happened and fucking move on. Life’s too short for regret and it will eat away at you like a flesh eating virus!

Here’s to a more rational you.
